“Melancholy is uncontrolled imagination”

After the bomb….

This is a very simple piece of work which I associate strongly with frightening apocalyptic science fiction films. There is no specific story, instead I will try to create an atmosphere of a feeling which can’t always be described. Sometimes this feeling appears in reality when there is a feeling of stillness, everything and everybody disappeares and it’s totally silent. When one is the only one left on earth. It’s a beautiful and horrifying feeling in the same time. In other words the work is very melancholic and based on imagination rather than on great scientific and existential questions.

“Melancholy is uncontrolled imagination”

Everything is left as it was when leaving, remains of Earl Grey in teacups, ashes of cigarettes, breadcrumbs on plates and tables. A novel by James Joyce thrown on a sofa, grains of dust under a bed, a glass of water on a bedside table. The breakfast, dinner and sandwich, unmade beds. Clothes on chairs, open doors, open windovs.

The camera slides pass and through, observing without stopping. The camera is me and the viewer. It’s all deserted. There is nobody left. Only me. It’s like a terrible nightmare seen through a white (or perhaps red)layer of muslin or a blurry lens. Everything is a bit blurry but visible enough. There are no sounds or perhaps the silent is so silent that it’s audible. I’ve read somewhere that there is nothing as complete silence, even the blood in our weins can be heard...
In an American grand film the scenes would most likely be shot in huge shoppingcenters, airports, financial centers and close to the White House but in my work the scenes will be filmed in smaller spaces as in the rooms of homes, staircases, parks, gardens, schoolyards, beaches and so on.
The expected result is a video projected as an installation in a gallery or other exhibition area. I assume the lenght of the video to be about 5-15 minutes.

Why this????

Why the hell not.
